This area of the police department is manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Dispatch is comprised of four civilian employees known as telecommunicators. Telecommunicators are a vital link between the public and police officers. Telecommunicators are charged with a myriad of duties that are required in order to ensure the smooth flow of information between those citizens needing assistance and the officers who are responding.
A small fraction of the duties assigned to telecommunicators are:
Respond to walk-in requests from citizens.
Answer 911 calls.
Answer non-emergency calls.
Dispatch officers to requests for service.
Dispatch Fire and EMS personnel as requested.
Monitor National Weather Service weather reports and activate tornado sirens during a Tornado Warning.
